Auto drivers to go on strike on Thursday
பல்வேறு கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி வரும் வியாழக்கிழமை (ஜூன் 19) வேலைநிறுத்தப் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபடுவதென ஆட்டோ ஓட்டநர் தொழிற்சங்கங்கள் முடிவெடுத்துள்ளன.
தமிழ்நாடு ஆட்டோ தொழிலாளர்கள் சம்மேளனம் (சிஐடியு), ஏஐடியுசி, விடுதலைச் சிறுத்தைகள், பாட்டாளி மக்கள், குட்வில் உள்ளிட்ட அனைத்து ஆட்டோ தொழிலாளர் சங்கத்தினரும் இணைந்து சென்னையில் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை (ஜூன் 15) நடத்திய ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டத்தில் இந்த முடிவை எடுத்துள்ளனர்.
இதுகுறித்து தமிழ்நாடு ஆட்டோ தொழிலாளர் சம்மேளன மாவட்ட செயலர் பாலு கூறியது:
எரிபொருள் விலை உயர்வுக்கு ஏற்ப கட்டணத்தை மாற்றியமைக்க முத்தரப்பு கமிட்டி அமைக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.
போலீஸôர் மற்றும் வட்டார போக்குவரத்து அலுவலர்களால் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்ட 2 ஆயிரம் வாகனங்கள் விடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதோடு, மொத்தம் 3,400 ஆட்டோ ஓட்டுநர்களிடம் கூடுதல் கட்டண புகாரின் பேரில் வசூலிக்கப்பட்ட ரூ. 2,600 அபராதத் தொகையை ஒவ்வொரு ஆட்டோ ஓட்டுநரிடமும் திரும்பக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்.
அரசு அறிவித்த ஜிபிஎஸ் மீட்டர் உடனடியாக வழங்க வேண்டும்.
என்பன உள்ளிட்ட 7 அம்ச கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி வியாழக்கிழமை வேலை நிறுத்தப் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால் சென்னையில் இயங்கும் 70 ஆயிரம் ஆட்டோக்களில் 90 சதவீதம் வியாழக்கிழமை இயங்காது.
அன்றைய தினம் மாலை தீவுத் திடல் மன்றோ சிலை அருகிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு தலைமைச் செயலகம் நோக்கி ஊர்வலமாகச் சென்று முதல்வரிடமும் மனு கொடுக்கவும் முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது என்றார்.
Auto drivers to go on strike on Thursday
Following intensified checking of autorickshaw meter charges by the traffic police, the autorickshaw drivers’ unions have decided to go on a one-day strike on Thursday. On an average, every day, around 30 autorickshaws are impounded across the city for not going by the meter. The transport department and the traffic police began their crackdown mid-May. Earlier, errant autorickshaw drivers were expected to pay a fine of Rs. 500, but now the transport department has decided to impound the vehicles of such drivers, said an official from the department. The autorickshaws are impounded for 10 days, and sometimes the release is delayed by a couple of days. Earlier, when the penalty was only a fine, most autorickshaw drivers would pay up and then continue to overcharge passengers. Now, with more stringent action, the department hopes drivers will pay more heed to the meter rule, said the official. On Sunday, eight autorickshaw unions got together and decided to submit a petition to Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa asking that the fine be reduced. According to M.S. Rajendran, general secretary of Tamil Nadu Auto Driver Federation (CITU), leaders of AITUC, CITU, LPF, Pattali Thozhil Sangal, Good Will, INTUC, INODA and Thozhilalar Viduthalai Munnani have decided their members will not ply their autorickshaws on Thursday to protest the transport department’s move.
